What Is Health Kinesiology?
Imagine you could ask your body what you needed to enjoy vibrant well-being, and actually have your body answer back. Health Kinesiology enables this body talk. It is a complementary healthcare practice that promotes healing and well-being by combining gentle muscle testing with the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Both Health Kinesiology and TCM are based on the understanding that our wellbeing is dependent on the balanced flow of energy around our systems. Energy instructs the physical body about how to grow and work in every detail. Too little or too great a flow of energy causes problems to arise. Health Kinesiology is a very gentle, non-invasive system of holistic therapy and is suitable for all ages from new born babies to the elderly. It accesses your body’s unique inner wisdom to find out exactly what you need to help you restore balance in you energy system, both inside and out.
What Can Health Kinesiology Do For Me?
As with other complementary treatments, like acupuncture, the imbalances that have led to any and all problems in your energy system can be pinpointed and addressed using muscle testing and applying the appropriate Health Kinesiology corrections. This allows your body, mind and spirit to bring itself back into optimum wellbeing.
How Does Health Kinesiology Work?
Gentle muscle testing allows the practitioner to have a conversation with your whole system, via yes/no questioning, to highlight and then rebalance the stresses and traumas that have led to you feeling unwell. The Health Kinesiology corrections undo blocks in the energy flows along meridians and throughout the your system. Like acupuncture, Health Kinesiology is based on the premise that the physical body is the mirror of all the imbalances within the person. Once these imbalances are dealt with, the physical body mirrors the improved energy flows by showing greater wellbeing.
What Is This Muscle-Testing Technique?
Muscle testing is a technique used by all kinesiologists. Any skeletal muscle can be tested through its range of movement. To test a muscle, the body part (arm, leg, head or torso) is positioned at the start of its range of movement. The client is instructed to hold steady with a minimum of effort, and the kinesiologist puts about two pounds of pressure on the arm, leg, etc. If the arm, leg, etc stays in position, there is no problem with the tested muscle. If it unlocks and allows movement, this indicates a stress or negative response.
Health Kinesiology adapts the approach used by other kinesiologists. The Health Kinesiologist selects one small muscle, usually the brachioradialis in the lower arm, which becomes a yes/no answering device for the client’s whole system. Then she makes certain the whole meridian system is in balance at the start of a session. In the main work of the session, the Health Kinesiologist offers a large system of corrections, and via the locking and unlocking of this lower arm muscle, the client’s system is assessed in order to select the most helpful corrections and to direct the whole session.
What Sort Of “Stressors” Might Be Identified Using This Muscle Testing Technique?
Many factors can stress the client’s system and put it out of balance—environmental toxins, allergens, micro-organisms, electromagnetic fields and other frequencies, and psychological stresses like worries, fear or limiting assumptions we may have about ourselves. Depending on the type of stressor identified with muscle testing, a physical sample may be placed on the client or the client is asked to think about an aspect of a worry, fear or difficult experience. The client’s tested muscle will unlock with the stressor in place, and then acupressure points are held with the finger tips to relieve the imbalance in the client associated with that stressor. In a typical HK session between 6 and 10 stessors are rebalanced.
Do Health Kinesiology Practitioners Offer Substance Testing?
Testing for substances that upset the body in one way or another was the first thing our founder, Dr Jimmy Scott, PhD, designed, and it is a staple part of every Health Kinesiologist’s skills. Many Health Kinesiologists run substance testing sessions where they only do substance reaction testing. It is then up to the client to act on the information offered.
How Many Health Kinesiology Sessions Would I Need To Have?
At your first session, your Health Kinesiologist will muscle test approximately how many sessions are needed to resolve the concerns you have highlighted to be addressed. Five sessions or less are usually sufficient for non chronic concerns. It can depend on how many concerns you highlight and how long they have been present. Many clients find that a regular session of Health Kinesiology helps them to maintain the wellbeing they achieve with their initial treatment.
How Long Does A Session Last?
A first session may last between one and two hours for a full consultation. Follow up session usually last around one hour. Corrections continue until your energy system indicates the end of the session via muscle testing.
How Long Do I Need To Leave Between Each Session?
The amount of time between sessions is determined by muscle testing. It can be as little as a few days, but is more commonly a few weeks. Your system indicates the correct interval via muscle testing as it knows how much time it needs to process the work of one session before undertaking another. If a client feels out of sorts or has suffered a new trauma between appointments, and wishes to bring their time-tabled follow up session forward, this is usually possible.
If I Am On Medication With Health Kinesiology Still Work?
Yes, it works well together with medical intervention. Health Kinesiologists do not diagnose but rather rebalance your system as a whole. A balanced system helps you to cope better with whatever is happening in your life. Regular Health Kinesiology sessions can help your system to be more robust boosting your own immunity and healing ability.
Once My Sessions Are Finished Will My Concerns Re-Occur?
The work done in a Health Kinesiology session should make for a permanent improvement in your wellbeing. If you were to suffer trauma after your HK sessions are complete, you may go out of balance and benefit from further treatment, but an old problem is much less likely to re-occur regardless. Annual or bi-annual top up sessions help to maintain good balance throughout the your energy system.
What Are ‘Energy Meridians’ & Why Are They Important To Our Health?
Energy meridians are a concept of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which includes acupuncture, upon which Health Kinesiology is based. They are pathways along which vital information about how every part of the body should develop, grow and work travels. The ancient Chinese discovered subtle pathways of energy that run around the body just under the surface of the skin. They mapped these pathways and rarked various points along the pathways as being particularly significant. They found that these points can be used to release excess/blocked energy from the pathways, much in the same way that sliproads release excess traffic from blocked motorways.
There are 14 main meridians on the human body. Two of them run directly up the centre of the body, one at the front, one at the back. The remaining 12 meridians are bi-lateral, that is they are in pairs, one on the left and one on the right of the body. The Chinese discovered that each of these meridians directs energy into one of the main organs of the body. There are meridians linked to the liver, heart, kidneys, lungs, etc. If the meridian becomes blocked, or malfunctions in some other way, the organ does not receive its usual amount of energy and becomes under-energised. An organ can also become over-energised when too much energy is directed into it by a meridian. The Chinese also found that certain emotions tended to under or over-energise particular meridians and so our thoughts and emotions can influence the functioning of our internal organs and bodies. Where Did Health Kinesiology™ Originate From?
Health Kinesiology was invented by Jimmy Scott Ph.D., an American psychologist who now lives in Canada. Dr Scott brought together principles developed from the ancient Chinese art of acupuncture and from Applied Kinesiology that is used by chiropractors, osteopaths, dentists, etc. Instead of using needles or manipulation, the HK practitioner simply holds various acupressure points on the body to bring the body’s energy system into harmony and balance. This allows the body’s natural healing mechanisms to work more effectively so that the client can reach their full potential, both physically and emotionally. You can read about the origins of Health Kinesiology here.
How Do I Find Out More About Health Kinesiology™?
The best way to find out more about Health Kinesiology is to consult one of our practitioners and experience at least one session, although we recommend 3 sessions as a minimum for most clients. To find one close to you, go to the “Practitioner” link on the homepage menu bar.
